The first public school “War” was both encouraging and challenging. As some of you know, the Minutemen Evangelistic Team was in a small public school in downstate Illinois in the fall of 2007 conducting a program we called, “Fizz Feud.” The high school had about 230 students in the school. The team conducted three school assemblies that ended with Minutemen’s trademark competition.
On the first day the kids in the school responded to the program, the team and the competition unbelievably. Mike Fisher spoke on drug abuse and you could have heard a pin drop. We went outside for Big Ball Basketball and most of the kids really got into the game. The second day I addressed sexual abstinence (at the school’s request). I was definitely out of my comfort zone, but I was please at how it went. The third day I addressed the issue of anger and forgiveness. On the second day we conducted Big Ball Bowling and the third day we did Spoke Tackle. The kids went crazy over Spoke Tackle and it was a huge hit. It did make the principal nervous, so we will have to reevaluate that one. On Saturday night when we had the evening rally we had a third of the student body show. When I gave the invitation, over 40 teens responded. We were very encouraged with how things went.
In the spring, Mike Fisher took a team to another small town in Illinois for our second “Fizz Feud.” The team faced some weather challenges and other issues, but was encouraged with the souls saved and a greater opportunity to present the ministry. This school has asked the team back in April of 2009. Stay tuned to VT for more updates!
